Terminology & sources

What do RA, RV, PA, PAWP, Ao, LV and LVEDP mean?

A quick map of the pressure-channel abbreviations.

Overview

RA/RAP: right atrium/right atrial pressure, often discussed with central venous pressure. RV: right ventricle. PA/PAP: pulmonary artery/pressure. PADP and PASP: pulmonary artery diastolic and systolic pressures.

PAWP/PCWP: pulmonary artery wedge/pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, used here as an LA-pressure proxy. LA: left atrium. LV: left ventricle. LVEDP: left ventricular end-diastolic pressure. Ao: aorta. ART: systemic arterial line.

CO: cardiac output. SV: stroke volume. PVR/SVR: pulmonary/systemic vascular resistance. Qp/Qs: pulmonary/systemic flow. SpO₂: pulse-oximetry-style saturation display. These names describe different measurements, not interchangeable numbers.
