Acute Severe Aortic Regurgitation

Abrupt LV volume overload raises LV filling and pulmonary venous pressures, with hypotension and low forward output.

Overview

Select Acute Severe Aortic Regurgitation under Clinical controls → Valves. The bold italic live label confirms the active selection. These are the preset’s teaching features; combined disease, rate and interventions can change the resulting numbers.

Abrupt LV volume overload raises LV filling and pulmonary venous pressures, with hypotension and low forward output.

Acute AR has elevated LVEDP and can cause pulmonary edema.

The systemic pulse pressure need not show the wide pulse pressure typical of chronic AR.

IABP is contraindicated because diastolic augmentation worsens AR; selecting it demonstrates deterioration and triggers a warning.

Step by step

  1. Reset interventions if you want the untreated example.
  2. Select the condition and inspect the pressure summary and relevant waveforms.
  3. Pause for annotations; add one intervention or loading change to compare the response.
