Pericardiocentesis

Find Pericardiocentesis in Procedures. Drainage reduces intrapericardial pressure, restoring diastolic filling and stroke volume. Atrial pressures fall and separate; BP rises and pulsus paradoxus recedes.

Overview

Open Interventions → Procedures. Choose Not performed, Drain effusion. Effect levels and flow targets represent illustrative modeled responses; they are not clinical dose instructions.

Drainage reduces intrapericardial pressure, restoring diastolic filling and stroke volume. Atrial pressures fall and separate; BP rises and pulsus paradoxus recedes.

The paused reference covers the route (Image-guided percutaneous pericardial drainage; surgical drainage when indicated.), example doses/settings, indications, adverse effects, contraindications/precautions and monitoring. These details are available after the intervention is selected.

What to monitor in the reference: ECG, BP, perfusion, repeat imaging and drainage output. Persistent elevated filling pressures may reflect coexisting disease. The simulator does not model procedural complications.

Step by step

  1. Inspect the untreated disease and active treatment count.
  2. Apply the intervention and compare pressures, forward flow, rhythm and congestion.
  3. Pause for its full reference; use Off or Interventions Reset to restart the comparison.
